  St. Michael's Coningsby

The church of St. Michael Coningsby stands in the centre of the village, about 300 yards east of the  road bridge over the River Bain. Holiday-makers on their way from the Midlands  to the East Coast often remark on its large single-handed clock, which is the largest in Europe. There is a 'Pilgrims Way' on the outside of the church, which leads from the churchyard, under the tower and to the ancient part of the Old Rectory.

St. Mary's church stands near the bank of the River Bain in the village of Kirkby-on-Bain. There has been a church on the site for about 900 years. However, the present church was rebuilt and has stood in its present form since 1802. There is a popular and well-used footpath leading past the church to the river, which was until the mid-twentieth century navigable between the Witham at Dogdyke and Horncastle.

Standing on higher ground and overlooking the Bain valley to the east, St.  Margaret's church stands in the centre of the small hamlet of Roughton, which is in turn the centre of the larger civil parish of Roughton  extending as far as Woodhall Spa to the west. Parts of this grade II* listed building are thought to date back to the 13th century. The church is currently undergoing major roof restoration work

The ecclesiastical parish of Haltham has been joined to that of Roughton, and the church of St. Benedicts was declared redundant in June 1979. It is now in the care of the Redundant Churches Trust. Well worth a visit, inside the church can be found box pews facing in different directions, and a three-decker pulpit. A 'Carols by Candlelight' service is held in the church near Christmas each year. F

The Collegiate church of Holy Trinity stands near the bank of the River Bain not far from its confluence with the River Witham. A large 15th century church of almost cathedral proportions it was built by one of the richest men of his time, Ralph Lord Cromwell, the Lord High Treasurer of England next the imposing red brick castle keep which he also built. The collegiate foundation which Lord Cromwell set up was lost at the time of the Reformation, but church, Bede Houses - which are still in use although much renovated - and, in the village, the old 'Grammar School' can still be seen
